Reputation, Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album that came out on Nov. 10 2017. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts being the year’s top debut week for an album.
It all started out when Swift was riding high after her 1989 World Tour and was very popular. Then, from the drama with Kanye West after he interrupted her at the VMA’S in 2009 he made a song called ‘Famous’ and said he made Swift famous. She came out and said she did not agree about it, but West faked a phone call saying she did and quickly people on social media rushed to call her a snake and get #taylorswiftisoverparty trending on Twitter. This pushed Swift to go into hiding for weeks, blacking out all of her socials as well.
Then, on August 21st, 2017 she slowly came out with posts of a snake on her social media announcing the first single of her new album, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ finally on Aug. 23. She quickly broke records with the music video becoming the most watched in one day with 43.2 million views. It only debuted at 77 on the billboard charts, but the following week shot up to number 1.
After a great debut for the album, let’s get more into my personal review about one of my favorite albums by Swift. The album opens up with ‘…Ready For It?’ This song kicks off the new reputation era perfectly, showing a more rock sound like Taylor showcasing her comeback.
Though the album comes off as a revenge album, getting her reputation back after Kayne West tried to ruin her career, it is actually a huge love album, showing songs like ‘Endgame,’ ‘King Of My Heart,’ and ‘Call It What You Want.’ All about her lover at the time, Joe Alwyn.
One of my favorites from the love portion of this album is ‘Dress’ , a song all about love saying ‘I only bought this dress so you could take it off’ expressing such a deep feeling for someone and the steamy love this album really is. ‘Don’t Blame Me’ is probably my top favorite from this album though. It is another one of those love songs saying ‘don’t blame me love made me crazy’ and holds Swift’s most iconic high note within the bridge of the song, which in my opinion really makes the song as great as it is.
‘I Did Something Bad’ loops us back into the revenge portion of this album. Swift made this live performance iconic with slowing down the beginning and giving fantastic vocals and hype going into the song that honestly gives me chills every time I watch the live performance. Her reputation tour was a fantastic showing of the album giving the dark vibes and revenge while showing the softer side as well with fun outfits and lights.
Swift closes out the album with the perfect slower love song, ‘New Years Day’. It is a great ending as we all know New Year’s Day is the start of a new year, showing Taylor starting almost new with a clean slate.
I overall love this album, being almost my number one favorite with a mix of songs that are great to jam out to, scream sing in the car, and slower love songs to enjoy. This album gets a 10/10 from me, being skipless. Fans even speculate that it will be her next re-recording, and I know that it will be a great one and am excited to gain new ‘from the vault’ songs.
