“The Wild Robot” follows the journey of Roz, a task completing robot who gets stranded on an island during shipment. Throughout this movie, Roz steadily befriends the wildlife of the island, learning from and mimicking their habits.
I have waited what felt like ages for this movie, and it did not disappoint. In my opinion, this movie was almost as good, if not equally as good, as “How to Train Your Dragon.” The animation was clean, and the storyline was absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love with the characters, their personalities, and the way they interacted with each other.
I like this movie for the same reasons as why I liked the movie “Wall-E.” There was not a whole lot of dialogue in this movie, and I think that amplified the story even more. The storyline did not need dialogue at every given moment to be able to pull the desired emotions. Movies like “The Wild Robot” and “Wall-E” have a much more visual aspect, allowing the story to be told through the actions of the characters, the music, and the emotions created by different scenes.
My absolute favorite part would have to be the bonds built between characters throughout the movie. From the cautiousness of the animals at the beginning and Roz’s intrusiveness due to her need to have a task, to the beginning of trust when she finally meets Brightbill, the gosling shown in the previews, these interactions between characters left me all giggly for most of the movie. Despite the lack of dialogue, this movie had an amazing cast with some of the more notable being Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, and Mark Hamill, all of whom did a wonderful job.
My least favorite part of this movie would have to be the opening. It was good, and it gave context to the story, but it was hard to wrap my head around. There was a lot of time skipping, flashing images, and change of perspectives. Still, I do not think it takes away from the story in any way.
Overall, I think this is one of my favorite movies. I absolutely cannot wait for it to be released to streaming services so that I can watch it again. This was amazing to see in theaters and I would definitely recommend people to go see it while it is still available on the big screen. Just make sure to wait and watch for the end credits scene, as it adds just a little bit more closure to the story. I would give this movie a 5/5.
