The Pittsburg State Track and Field team dominated on Sunday, racking up 19 individual event victories and 42 NCAA qualifying marks. The Pittsburg State Track and Field team dominated on Sunday, racking up 19 individual event victories and 42 NCAA qualifying marks. 

On the men’s side, they claimed nine individual event wins. On the long-distance side, Freshman Liam Kirkpatrick won the 5,000-meter and Redshirt Junior Dylan Sprecker won the 1500 meter. Freshman Houston McGown got second in the 1500 meters. In the quick race side of the event, Junior Ilias Garcia won the 100-meter, Redshirt Sophomore Eli Gilmore won the 800-meter, and the 4×4 team, consisting of Senior Xavier Carmichael, Graduate Student Woyn Chatman, Junior Logan Davis, and Junior Nate Watson. Sophomore Na’Koriyon James got second in the 110-meter hurdles. 

The field events delivered some of the meet’s most memorable moments. Redshirt Sophomore Grayson Smith electrified the stadium as he broke the school record in the pole vault, clearing an astonishing height of 18 feet, 0.5 inches. Smith’s achievement not only secured him the event win but also cemented his name in the program’s history books. 

With other fielding events in the meet, Sophomore Isaiah Webster won the triple jump. Freshman Xavier Byers got second in the high jump, and freshman Antwan Dawson got second in the triple jump. Sophomore Trace Hanchett won the Javelin, and Senior Jack Haukap won the hammer throw. Junior Maddox Johnson placed second in Javelin. 

For the women’s team at the meet, for the track side, the 4×1 team won, consisting of Senior Isabel Abdouch, Graduate Student Kiara Brown, Freshman Nikole Cozort, and Redshirt Senior Blakelee Winn. Redshirt Sophomore Kelsey Bruening won the 1500-meter race, and Graduate Student Zyra Shivers won the 100-meter hurdles. Brown also won the 100-meter dash, and Sophomore Mikah Edwards won the 400-meter dash. Freshman Jakayla Morgan won the 400-meter hurdles, and the 4×4 relay team won, consisting of Abdouch, Brown, Cozort, and Edwards. Sophomore Lorna Rae Pierce got second in the 1500-meter, Brown got second in the 200-meter, and Freshman Eliz White got second in the 800-meter. 

In the field side for the women’s, Sophomore Brooklyn Baker won the long jump, Sophomore Bethany Umbarger won the high jump, and Freshman Alycia Cosens won the Javelin. Freshman Madi Olds got second in the javelin; Redshirt Senior Isabelle Peters got second in Pole Vault, Freshman Alexa Binkley got second in triple jump, and Junior Jazmine Williamson got second in the high jump. 

Pittsburg State Gorilla Track and Field will return to action at the John McDonnell Invitational on April 23 and April 24.
