The MIAA announced all conference teams and awards for the 2022-2023 regular season. Four from the women’s team were named, sophomore forward Karenna Gerber, fifth year guard Tristan Gegg, sophomore guard Grace Pyle, and freshman guard Harper Schreiner were all named to a team. Men’s team player junior guard Deshaun English was also named to the honorable mention team. Schreiner was named the 22-23 freshman of the year in the conference.
“I was very honored to receive this award,” Schreiner said. “There is a lot of great young talent in this league and many great athletes that have received this award in the past, and I am grateful my hard work was noticed by other coaches.”
Schreiner was also named to the honorable mention all conference team. She ranked second in the conference with assists from averaging 4.2 per game and a total of 120. Schreiener also ranked third in free throw scoring with a percentage of .853 (87-102). Head coach Amanda Davied was proud of Schreiner for both achievements and everything she’s done for the team this season.
“She impacts the game on so many levels, I know she is a fan favorite based on the effort she puts in,” Davied said. “The things she does when she’s not scoring with distributing the basketball, deflections, rebounds, hustle plays, defensively helping her teammates, and just an overall effort she is so fun to watch and we are so happy to have her a part of our program.”
Gegg was awarded second team all conference, after leading the MIAA in three point field goals with 85 and averaging 3 per game. She averaged 15 points per game during the regular season with 2.6 rebounds as well. Davied was pleased with Gegg’s season and being named to an all conference team for the fourth time.
“This is her third time being on the second team, and that just shows what great of a league we have and that she’s up there as one of the best players in the league,” Davied said. “She’s been a very consistent scorer for us over the years, and she really stretches the floor for us and makes people guard her.”
Gerber was named to the third team all conference, from leading the conference in field goal percentage of .569 (144-253). She also ranked eighth in the conference with scoring of 426 points, and rebounding with 220. Davied was also proud of Gerber, and how she improved even more from her first season to be named on an all conference team.
“She has really come on strong as a sophomore, from the day she walked on the floor at practice you could tell how much more confident she was,” Davied said. “Credit to her effort with film, she’s such a great leader so we are really proud of her.”
Pyle was also named to the honorable mention all conference team. She ranked sixth in the conference from regular season three point field goals with 54 and 1.9 per game, as well as being ranked 10th in the conference in scoring with 400 points. Davied was again proud of Pyle for her honor, and how she came back from an injury and played great this season.
“Her play on the floor was great, she brought that consistent three point shooting, drives it hard, scores at the rim, she can shoot jumpers, so she is really an element to our ball screen offense that has really helped us,” Davied said.
From the men’s team, English was also awarded honorable mention all conference. He ranked second in the league in rebounding with 256, and third in blocked shots as well as minutes played with 34.5 per game. English also was ranked 10th in the conference in scoring with 396, as well as leading the team average 14.7 points per game. He also led the team in rebounds and blocked shots per game, as well as posting 12 double-doubles in the regular season.
