Hackers try to control campus emails Jay Benedict | editor-in-chief On Tuesday, April 2, PSU’s faculty and staff email system, Zimbra, came under attack. The platform was hit by an unknown source, so it could be added to a spammer’s “army of zombies,” according to Tim Pearson, assistant director of information services. Hackers tried to gain access to university email addresses because its designation as a trusted site and its “.edu” designation makes it reputable. This allows emails sent from a compromised account to get through most filters that email providers use. SEK Symphony Concert The Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall of McCray Hall. Their music will include “Mambo” from “West Side Story,” “Nimrod,” from “Enigma Variations,” and others. Moon Festival Friday The PSU Chinese Culture Club will sponsor a Moon Festival at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in Gorilla Village on the Pittsburg State University campus. The event is free and open to the public. The Moon or Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated each year in China when the moon is largest in the sky. Deadline Monday for photo contest The deadline for the National Gorillagraphic photography contest for students who studied abroad is Monday, Oct. 1.
