SGA discusses $15,000 grant for wind ensemble

| Audrey Dighans copy editor | The Student Government Association on Wednesday night gave first-round approval to grant $15,000 to the PSU Wind Ensemble. The $15,000 would come out of a Fee Council reserve account, which currently holds more than $200,000. The money would help finance the Wind Ensemble’s trip to New York City, where the group has been granted the opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center. “The trip is estimated to cost a total of $90,000,” said Jaci Gilchrist, vice president. “It will cost roughly $1,688 per student and the students themselves will pay $300 of their own money toward the trip.” Steve Erwin, associate vice president of campus life and auxiliary services…

Power of wind music in contrasts

Audry Dighans | copy editor The Pitt State Wind Ensemble was a showcase of elite musical talent put on at Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 8. “Everyone performing tonight had to audition to be in the ensemble,” said Jeff Chang, freshman in music education. “This is the elite group of musicians at PSU.” The concert was sponsored by the PSU Department of Music and the songs performed lived up to the event’s name, “Contrasts,” in several ways. Art to be auctioned off The University Art Association will hold its annual art auction 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Artwork made by students and faculty will be auctioned off.
