Men win at ESU

The Pittsburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Emporia State University’s State Farm Relays on Saturday, April 5, in Emporia. The men won the event with 157 points and the women finished in sixth.
On the men’s side, the Gorillas had four individual winners.
Sophomore Garrett Appier won the shot put with a throw of 56-3. Junior Jeff Piepenbrink won the pole vault with clearance of 16-0.75. Freshman Bo Farrow won the discus with a throw of 168-2.5. Farrow also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 53-8.5.
Junior Marquel Nickens won the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.61. Senior James Carter III finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.39.
The 400m-relay team also finished second with a time of 41.12.
Senior Steven Mann placed third in the long jump with a mark of 24-1. Senior Cody Holland finished third in the discus with a throw of 163-2.5. Junior Talon Thompson placed third in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:59.16. Freshman Jordan Morton finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 210-2.
On the women’s side of the competition, freshman Emilyn Dearman won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.44. Junior Antqunita Reed finished second with a jump of 19-6 and finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.54. Freshman Heather Glenn placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-11.75. Sophomore D’Andria Blow finished third in the discus with a mark of 146-7.75 and senior Casey Epps finished third in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:28.71.
The Gorillas return home for their final home meet of the season as they host the sixth annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic on Saturday, April 12, at Prentice Gudgen Track.
