Jessica Macy named MIAA track athlete of the week

Junior Jessica Macy was named the MIAA Track Athlete of the Week. Macy won the 10,000 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday, April 17. She posted the fastest time in the MIAA and the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division II with a time of 34:47.89.
The rest of the Gorillas competed in the Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo., on Friday, April 18.
On the men’s side, sophomore Garrett Appier won the shot put with a throw of 55-10.5. Freshman teammate Bo Farrow finished second in the event with a throw of 52-10.25.
Senior Cody Holland finished second in the discus with a throw of 164-9. Freshman John Blazevic finished second in the javelin with a throw of 189-9. Junior Marquise Cushon finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 47-10.5.
On the track, the 400-meter relay team of sophomore Andre Sanders, junior Jason Crow, senior Kyle Utsey and freshman Bryce Starks won with a time of 40.65, which is the 10th-fastest time ever in Division II.
The 1,600-meter relay team of freshmen Eric Jackson and Luke Martin, junior Marquel Nickens and sophomore Luke Norris finished second with a time of 3:18.94. Sophomore Austin Bogina won the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:03.40. Freshman Connor Stark finished second with a time of 32:44.10.
Sanders finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.47. Junior Talon Thompson finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:44.03.
The Gorillas took the top three spots in the 400-meter hurdles with Nickens placing first with a time of 53.52, sophomore Casey Steinmiller finishing second with a time of 54.71 and junior Ryan Ramler finishing third with a time of 55.28. Junior Jordan Peters finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.95.
On the women’s side, sophomore Aimi Orton won the javelin with a throw of 146-6 and senior Amber Kloster finished second with a mark of 137-3. Sophomore Cassie Caswell finished third in the shot put with a throw of 46-03.5 and finished third in the discus with a throw of 146-11.
Sophomore Darien Stancell finished second in the hammer throw with a throw of 176-10. Junior Antqunita Reed won the long jump with a mark of 19-04.75. Reed also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.04.
Freshman Heather Glenn won the pole vault with a clearance of 12-08.25. Freshman Deja Snell finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 36-09.75. Senior Casey Epps won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:52.72. Freshman Emilyn Dearman won the 400 meters with a time of 58.86.
The Gorillas will compete at the Drake Relay in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26, and part of the team will compete at the MSSU Invitational on Friday, April 25.
