| Michael Bauer, Sports Editor | The Pittsburg State golf team wrapped up its 2014 season at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships in Lawrence, Kan. with a 12th place finish. The tournament took place at the Alvamar Country Club from Monday, April 20, through Wednesday, April 23, and was played over the course of three rounds. Battling against Southwest Baptist to avoid last place, the Gorillas were in 11th place at the end of the first and second rounds before falling into third in the third round to the Bearcats by six strokes. Jessica Macy named MIAA track athlete of the week

| Dakota Smith, reporter | Junior Jessica Macy was named the MIAA Track Athlete of the Week. Macy won the 10,000 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday, April 17. She posted the fastest time in the MIAA and the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division II with a time of 34:47.89. The rest of the Gorillas competed in the Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo., on Friday, April 18. On the men’s side, sophomore Garrett Appier won the shot put with a throw of 55-10.5. Baseball 16-30 overall, 11-24 in conference | Dakota Smith reporter | The Pitt State baseball team took on Nebraska-Kearney in its final home series of the season Thursday-Saturday, April 17-19. The opener of the series saw the Gorillas snap its 12-game losing streak. The Lopers jumped ahead with an early lead 3-0. Pitt State got back in the game in the fifth inning on an RBI single by junior Spencer Booe and a sac fly by senior Jacoby Martin. Brown breaks single season MIAA HR Record | Dakota Smith reporter | The Pitt State softball team has won its last five games and currently sits 27-23 overall and 9-13 in MIAA play. Pitt State took on Drury University in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16. In game one senior Tiffany Brown hit a two-run home run. This was her 24th of the season, which broke the MIAA single-season record. Junior McKenzie Rynard followed with a solo home run of her own. Baseball loses five strait | Michael Bauer Sports Editor | The Pitts State baseball team has lost its last five games and now sits at 15-27 overall and 10-21 in MIAA play. The Gorillas took on their rival Missouri Southern on April 15. Pitt State got off to a good start with an RBI single by junior Nathan Arnold. The Gorillas scored another run in the second on a ball by Missouri Southern pitcher Skylar Hill. The game fell apart for the Gorillas in the sixth and seventh innings. Farrow named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week | Dakota Smith reporter | The Pitt State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the 6th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic on April 12. This was the final home meet of the year for the Gorillas. Freshman Bo Farrow was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week. Farrow won the discus with a throw of 179.5 and finished second in the shot put with a throw of 54-5.25. Sophomore Garrett Appier finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 52-7.75. | Dakota Smith reporter | The Pittsburg State baseball team has snapped its nine-game losing streak with a victory against the University Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on April 9 at Al Ortolani Field. In game one, the Gorillas trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when senior Cody Ball singled home a run to get the Gorillas on the board. Ball would score two batters later on a sac fly by senior Jacoby Martin. Senior Kyle Dickens kept things going with a towering home run to left field, tying the game at three. The men won the event with 157 points and the women finished in sixth. On the men’s side, the Gorillas had four individual winners. Sophomore Garrett Appier won the shot put with a throw of 56-3.
