Rynard named MIAA Astroturf hitter of the week

The Pitt State softball team has been on a roll of late, winning its last five games.
PSU took on Missouri Southern in a double header on March 7.
In game one, Pitt State got off to a good start. Junior McKenzie Rynard had an RBI single in the first inning, giving the Gorillas an early lead.
In the third inning, freshman Nicole Nease had an RBI single and sophomore Alex Perez had two-RBI doubles, putting the Gorillas at 4-0. Junior Cheslyn Mitchell scored another run in the fifth.
The Lions answered Mitchell’s RBI single with a run of their own, making the score 5-1.
In the sixth, Pitt State came right back with a run on a single by senior Tiffany Brown. Junior Samantha Grove singled a home run in the seventh and sophomore Jordan Bradshaw capped things off with a two-run homer, giving the Gorillas a victory of 9-1. Grove got the win, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run on five hits.
Game two of the double header went in favor of Pitt State as well. After the first two innings, the game was tied until the Gorillas scored three runs in the third off of a sac fly by Rynard, an RBI single from Perez and an RBI double by Mitchell.
In the fourth, freshman Bailey Letts extended the Gorillas’ lead with a two-run homer to make the score 7-2. Pitt State added three more in the fifth, and won by a final score of 10-3. Senior Haleigh Sills got the win, pitching a complete game and allowing three runs on six hits.
Rynard was named the MIAA AstroTurf hitter of the week. She went 7-14 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the double header against Missouri Southern. The week before, Senior Tiffany Brown was NFCA hitter of the week. She went 10-17 that week with five home runs.
Pittsburg State was coming off of victories over Sioux Falls to start off its current winning streak.
The Gorillas were going to face Drury University in a double header at home on Wednesday, March 12, but the games were postponed due to a conflict in Drury’s schedule. A rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.
PSU’s next round of games will be on Friday, March 14, at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. in a double-header.
After that, the Gorilla women will travel to Edmond, Okla., to face Central Oklahoma University for a double-header on Saturday, March 15.
Pittsburg State’s next home games will be on Wednesday, March 19, against Lincoln University.
