First Performance slated for chamber music series
Pittsburg State University will begin its annual Solo and Chamber music series with a performance by Scott Bell, oboist, and pianist/organist Larry Allen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall. This is the first of six scheduled performances to continue a tradition of balancing old and new, classical and mainstream music.
Paint the Town Red events schedule announced
The annual Paint the Town Red celebration of Gorilla football has been scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 4-7, in anticipation of Pitt State’s first home game.
Among activities planned is a campus decorating contest open to all buildings, departments and student groups. Entrants need to register by Sept. 3. Prizes include a lunch party, prize pack and traveling trophy. Other events include a residential and business decorating contest, balloon launch, 5K run, pep rally and downtown events. PSU screens movie on Jungletron
Pittsburg State University’s Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations is hosting a free showing of Disney’s “Wreck it Ralph” on the Jungletron in Carnie Smith Stadium.
Stadium gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on. No coolers or alcohol is allowed in the stadium and no food or chairs are allowed on the field. Food and drink will be permissible in the stands, however. Adult supervision of all children is required.

Study Abroad info sessions
The PSU International Programs and Services office is holding Study Abroad info sessions. The next one is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, and repeated at the same time Wednesday, Sept. 4 in the Inaugural Room of the Overman Student Center. Please bring your laptop or tablet to enable easy access to the internet.
Nursing Olympics Thursday
Pittsburg State University school of nursing will hold the second annual Nursing Safety and Mobility Olympics at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. The event is designed to help teach students how to safely transfer patients. Students are divided into eight teams for the competition and will be judged on safety techniques more than speed.
MIAA unveils digital network
The MIAA announced a new digital network that will provide fans a quick and easy way to find the content they are searching for, including video, from all the member schools. The network will also provide easy access to MIAA features.
Writing Center relocated to Hartmann Hall
During renovations in Axe Library, the university’s Writing Center is located in 210 Hartman Hall. Center hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Dec. 10. The fall semester appointment schedule is available online at https://pittstate.mywconline.com.
Move-in date for the new space in Axe Library will be announced later.
Accounting Dept. chair receives state award
A Pittsburg State University faculty member has been named to the “Women to Watch” list by the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Becky Casey, chair of the accounting and computer information systems department at PSU’s Kelce College of Business, is one of two recipients of the “Women to Watch” award in the Experienced Leader category.
The “Women to Watch” awards are given out by the Kansas Society of CPAs in conjunction with the American Institute of CPAs.
