Gorillas burned by Golden Suns

The Pittsburg State softball team competed Wednesday, March 27, against Arkansas Tech University.
The two teams played in Russellville, Ark., in a double header with the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns, taking the first game, 3-8, and the second, 1-7.
In the first game, the Golden Suns came out hot, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Pitt State answered with Katelyn Birchfield scoring off a throwing error by third base, cutting the lead to two.
In the top of the sixth, Pitt State scored off a Tiffany Brown double to help gain some momentum. Later, in the seventh inning, Jordan Bradshaw scored off a Cheslyn Mitchell hit.
That’s all the Gorillas could muster, though, as Arkansas Tech. had 11 hits en route to their victory, 3-8, in game one.
Game two didn’t fare much better for Pitt State. Although the Gorillas’ Brenna George was able to score in the top of the third, off a Kreslee Ketcham RBI, it would not be enough to keep Arkansas down for good.
The Golden Suns earned two runs in the first inning to start things off, off of two RBI’s from Cassady Haworth and Whitney Robinson.
Then, in the second inning, the Suns batted well, earning three runs from Amy Kilpatrick, Nikki Nail, Jessica Black andWhitney Robinson, respectively.
Arkansas Tech used it three-run second inning to help come out on top, 1-7, when it was all said and done.
The win brings Pitt State to 17-11, with five wins coming from the MIAA, as well as three losses.
Next up for the Gorillas is a home double-header against an MIAA conference opponent in Northwest Missouri State University. It is this Friday, March 29, at home..
