Reception planned for ‘Coal Bucket’ artists
ArtFest and the PSU Art Department will be hosting a reception to celebrate the local artists who submitted designs for the SEK ArtFest 2013, “Mining Memories.” The reception will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in Porter Hall.
Award winning poets to read at PSU
More than 16 poets from throughout Kansas will read from the poetry collection “To the Stars Through Difficulties: A Kansas Renga in 150 Voices.” The poetry reading will be a tribute to the arts and culture of Kansas. It will occur at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in 409 Russ Hall.
Registration due for Big Event
Students and organizations now have the opportunity to register for the 2013 Big Event. The deadline to register is Friday, March 15. The first 500 to register get a free T-shirt.

Chinese club to celebrate New Year
The PSU Chinese Culture Club will celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the lobby of the Crimson Commons. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to make dumplings and will play traditional Chinese games.
Job interview workshop
Jungle Journeys and Career Services will be hosting “Job Interview Dos and Don’ts” from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in 103 Kelce. A guest speaker will be there to share tips on how to best prepare for an interview and how a mock interview service can advance interviewing skills.
Skate Night
The Black Student Association and Office of Student Diversity are sponsoring a skating event at Lowe’s Skateway 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.
Korean New Year’s Day celebration
The PSU Korean Student Association will be hosting a Korean New Year’s Day Celebration at noon Saturday, Feb. 9, at the United Methodist Campus Ministry, located one block north of the Overman Student Center. Those who attend will learn about Korean New Year’s Day, play some traditional Korean games and enjoy Korean dumpling soup.
SAC presents comedian
The Student Activities Council will present comedian Andy Hendricksen at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the U-Club of the Overman Student Center.

Date auction planned
The Office of Student Diversity will hold a Date Auction from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center. Students will be able to bid on other people, or for a date for Valentine’s Day.
Win dinner and a movie
Students for Violence Prevention will sponsor a healthy relationship contest in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The winners will receive dinner and a movie for two. At least one member of each healthy relationship team (couples, friends and co-workers) must be a PSU student, faculty or staff.
The entry questionnaires can be picked up near the Valentine’s Day-themed boxes located at the Psychology and Counseling Office in Whitesitt Hall, the Information Desk and Gorilla Lounge in the Overman Student Center or the Student Health Center. All entries are due noon Monday, Feb. 11.
‘Maniacal 4′ trombone quartet
This concert of classical, jazz and pop music styles will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall.
Academic honors applications due
The deadline for students to turn in applications for the Departmental Academic Honors Program is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. To qualify, a student must maintain a 3.5 GPA and must complete a minimum of nine semester hours of honors-designated coursework that are part of the student’s major.
A description of the Departmental Academic Honors Program and an application can be accessed at http://www.pittstate.edu/office/registrar/departmental-academic-honors.dot. Application forms need to be typed.
Residence Hall sign-up due
Students who wish to return to the residence halls for the 2013-2014 academic year will need to complete a contract.
Residents wishing for the same room may sign up Feb 11-13. Those wishing for the same hall but a different room may sign up Feb. 19.
Any location of university housing will be open Feb. 21-March 1. An application fee of $145 is required at the time of signup.
Valentine flower sales
Gorillas in Your Midst will be selling flowers on Valentine’s Day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in Yates Hall. Carnations will cost $1 and roses will cost $3.
