Pitt State’s Porter Hall is showcasing a painting exhibition by Erin Wiersma, assistant director of art at Kansas State University, in the University Gallery that will conclude with a lecture by Wiersma on
“Figuration has consistently been the foundation of my paintings,” Wiersma said in the artist statement on her website. “My practice as an artist has progressed from observing the tangible human form of another, to the physical representation of myself in relationship to the paper, to expressing the emotional and intangible aspects that make up my being.”
Wiersma’s lecture, part of the Interdisciplinary Lecture Series on Nov. 1 and 2, will lead into a series of lectures discussing the relationship between visual art and music.
“I’m able to use my physical energy and manipulate materials to see beyond myself,” said the New Jersey native and graduate of Italy’s Instituto Lodovico. “To catch a glimmer of something powerful and ineffable.”
The University Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in Porter Hall.
