The occupy Wall Street movement?
Respond below.
The most recent bit of torture that is being forced on women seeking abortions is the Informed Consent bill. “The informed-consent bill that is being pushed in the 50 states would require abortion practitioners to make the fetal heartbeat audible and visible to pregnant women before an abortion. The National Right to Life, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Americans United is backing it for Life, Susan B. Anthony List, and Family Research Council Action.” This bill is bad enough, but some states are seeking to go even farther. Ohio for example is calling for abortions to be banned the moment a fetal heart beat is detectable, this is typically 6 weeks, often before a women even knows she is pregnant. The “pro-life” movement, which often associates itself with Christianity is in my view far from what I understand of Christian values.
This latest move proves this to me, most women are seeking an abortion because raising or even carrying a fetus to term is an untenable position. To put them through this demeaning and demoralizing bit of torture is the act of a sadist. My mother was married to a man before my father who beat her, while seeking a divorce, she found herself pregnant. Having no choice, she had a friend drive her the hundreds of miles to the only clinic in Kansas that performed the procedure. Now my mother is the kindest hearted person I have ever met, we have rescued several animals from dogs to livestock. Given a choice, she would not have had an abortion, but she had no choice. However, if this law had been in effect in Kansas at that time, she would not have been able to follow through and if she had it would have haunted her for years. My mother is strongly pro-choice but the fetal heartbeat would have been too much for her. Not that it means that a heart beat makes a fetus anything but the beginning of life, but because we as a society attach an unnatural value on the heart, we send them on cards, candy, we speak from them, and we give them to others. Truth be told, a person long since brain dead can have a heartbeat, that doesn’t mean a women should forced to spend eighteen or more years taking care of him because the right says he is a life.
In conclusion, Roe V Wade is the standard for the country and has been for decades. Abortion is a matter that must be decided by the courts, politicians spend too much time oiling the squeaky wheels (Pro-Life). If we allow politics to continue how they have been, we will return to back alley abortions that jeopardize women’s lives and health.
